These are my own x-rays. The first one was taken hours after I was rear-ended at a stop light in 2010. As you can see, the trauma/whiplash from the accident knocked several of the bones in my neck out of place, changing the shape of the curve in my neck and putting pressure on the surrounding spinal nerves. These nerves in my neck are the same nerves that go from my brain to my head, face, pituitary gland, eyes, ears, sinuses, tongue, heart, diaphragm, lungs, thyroid, vocal cords, pharynx, esophagus, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands (just to name a few things).

So I had two choices. I could take pain pills and muscle relaxers to ease my pain, ignoring the fact that neither of those two things get my spine back in place and moving properly or get the pressure off the nerves in my neck. Eventually these out of place bones would wear out from rubbing and moving incorrectly (just like misaligned tires on a car) and a few years down the road I would wonder how my neck got in such bad shape.

My second choice (really my first choice) was to go see my dad the Chiropractor. He examined my neck, took digital x-rays to see the condition of my spine, and then set my neck back in place and allow it to heal in the right position (keeping it from wearing out inappropriately). Choosing this option meant that the x-rays taken a year later (right before I left for chiropractic school) showed my neck back in great shape, without any degeneration or residual damage from the accident, and had me feeling like a million bucks and excited to go become a chiropractor!

You all have that same choice! All of us have been injured in the past and all of us will get injured again in the future. Next time you are faced with a trauma (big or small), consider the safe, conservative, and effective option…. Hadley Chiropractic
